Overview:An Open Water Diver can only dive under the direct supervision of a Dive Leader or higher qualified diver/instructor. An 'Open Water Diver' has limited open water diving experience and must progress to 'Club Diver' training to gain further skills. Maximum depth whist under this section of training is 20 metres. Prerequisites: Trainee must have achieved 'Elementary Diver' certificate. Open Water Dives/Assessments (4 dives): Complete at least 4 qualifying dives in a safe open water dive site. Dives must be under the supervision of a 'Dive Leader' or above, and the following assessments (spread over a number of dives) must be carried out successfully; 1. Achieve neutral buoyancy with weight belt correctly weighted 2. Demonstrate correct use of a buoyancy compensator 3. Use an Alternative Air Source (AAS) both as donor and receiver 4. Dive to a depth deeper than 10m, but not exceeding 20m 5. Dry suit divers display the ability to right themselves when inverted NB: All dives can be carried out at the same open water site if desired. |
